Woolworths proposal centres on civic centre site

Woolworths' proposal for Springwood would see a 3200 square metre supermarket built on the civic centre site with specialty shops taking up 940 square metres.

The company's proposal states the community facilities currently at the civic centre site would be relocated to "new purpose built facilities on the southern car park".

The capacity of the southern and civic centre car parks would be almost doubled.

The supermarket giant says its proposal will provide "modern community and retail facilities that will service the community needs and reduce escape retail spending to centres outside of Springwood".

This information was released on council's website following its decision last Tuesday night. The information from Coles and Jamieson Property Group was less specific, although both their proposals involve all three council sites.

The Jamieson proposal did warn against allowing too many retailers in Springwood.

"Supply of additional retail space needs to be balanced and not undermine existing retailers. Oversupply may be unsustainable and detrimental to existing retailers," it stated.
