A new pressure group opposed to a large scale redevelopment of Springwood's shopping centre will hold a public meeting on Monday May 12.
Springwood residents Chris and Jan Taylor formed the Save Our Springwood committee to oppose the imposition of a new shopping complex in Springwood.
"The committee opposes any large scale redevelopment that would alter the historical character of our village and destroy the ambience that makes Springwood unique," they said in a statement.
"SOS expects the council to be open with any plans they have. We demand community wide discussion and involvement. This process should begin now before any decisions are made that could prove to be irreversible."
The public meeting will be held at the Springwood Sports Club in Lawson Road on Monday, May 12 at 7:15 pm.
"We are offering an invitation to councillors to attend for a question and answer forum," said the Taylors.
"I am sure that in the future people will be grateful to those who stood up and saved our town. You never know what you have until it is gone."
