The Labor Party's Adam Searle is the Mountains' new mayor.
With the Greens backing his bid for the top job, the Ward 2 councillor won an open ballot vote 7-5 against Liberal Party contender Chris Van der Kley at last night's council meeting.
Newcomer to the council table and Ward 1 independent Janet Mays will take on the role of deputy mayor.
Councillors Greenhill, McCallum, McLaren, Searle, Clark, Mays and Gibbs voted for Searle.
Councillors Creed, Myles, Van der Kley, Luchetti and Hamilton voted against.
