Woolies and Coles vie for Springwood prize

One of the worst kept secrets in the Mountains was confirmed on Monday when Woolworths was named as one of the five companies who want to take part in Springwood's revitalisation.

But the retail giant will have to contend with their commercial rival Coles, who have also submitted a proposal under the expression of interest process.

The Silverton Group describes itself on its website as "a national property development group that prides itself on creating beautiful, functional spaces for people to work, live and play.

The public is unlikely to discover details of the five proposals until March when Council will consider narrowing the process. Confidentiality requirements during the tender evaluation mean only company names are released at this early stage.

Council invited expressions of interest from the private sector for three sites in Springwood: the northern and southern car parks, and the civic centre/library site.
