Jamieson proposes integrated development on all three sites

The Jamieson Property Group Pty Ltd made one of the five expressions of interest in the Springwood Town Centre Project.

I spoke with the Director, Mark Anthony Jamieson.

He told me they made a very detailed proposal that covers all three sites in a holistic fashion.

Here are some notes from my phone conversation with him:

• He submitted a very detailed proposal to Council
• It is for all three sites.
• He is taking a holistic approach.
• He said he can't give us specific information until Council has decided on the shortlist.
• He wants to make Springwood a tourist destination, like Leura.
  • We need direct convenient parking, with easy access from the Great Western Highway.
• He said the Southern Carpark is inconvenient.
  • For example, it is difficult for people to get to it.
• The Northern Carpark is convenient.
  • Accessible from Macquarie Road.
  • But it is not utilised very well.
  • He wants to "reinstate" it - redesign it so it will work better.
  • He wants to make it more lively.
  • He says there is "so much more" we can do with it.
• He wants to use the Civic Centre as a focal point.
  • Improve it as a point of destination for tourists.
  • He wants to provide convenient access to the library and Civic Centre.
  • He wants to develop an eastern entry to Springwood, where the Civic Centre site is the focal point, and one of the first things people see.
    This will serve as a "grandiose" gateway.
• He says Springwood has some beautiful heritage houses, such as Braemar.
  • But Braemar is screened by trees, and looks cluttered, so people don't notice it.
  • He also mentioned the Oriental Hotel.
  • He mentioned adding a café to Braemar.
• He said commercial development is needed to pay for this.
  • He will take a balanced approach.
  • He said it will complement, and not compete with, the current businesses.
  • Many of the things he will be providing are currently "not there at all".
• He also said he looked at some of our existing office space.
  • He said there are "lots of holes" which he will help to fill.
• He said Springwood has good "macro" features, such as a well located railway station.
• He said he plans to have lots of consultation with the community on the details.
  • But he says he has to wait until the Council decision on the shortlist before talking to the community and businesses.
